Methodology
The Local News Network Board of Education Voter Guide, published in partnership with Capital News Service and the Maryland Democracy Initiative, was produced by a team of 105 student journalists and 10 faculty members at the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism. Information from the voter guide will be made available for publication free of charge to any news outlet in Maryland.
LNN began this project by sending a candidate questionnaire to all 109 school board candidates in the state. Seventy-four candidates responded. Candidate responses were edited only for grammar and style.
Student journalists also did background checks on all the candidates. A future Capital News Service story will include details about candidates who have faced significant legal issues.
